Technology standardisation; achieving interoperability, seamless service delivery while maximising market share

Renaud Di Francesco has joined Sony in 1998 to manage the growth of its EU co-operative R&D, and the theatrical digital cinema start in Europe, co-founding the European Digital Cinema Forum. Since 2004 he has been the General Manager of Sony’s Europe Technology & Standards office, located in London. He currently chairs the European High Tech Trade Association Digital Europe for Broadcast, and is a Board Member of DVB (digital television).

A telecommunications engineer, Renaud has held different positions in research at Bell Labs and then France Telecom, moving on to develop satellite services, manage international network projects from 1987 to 1995. From 1995 he has worked for the European Commission, managing the project portfolio of e-commerce, security and network management in Advanced Communications Technologies and Services (ACTS), then co-ordinating the Councils of Ministers or Telecommunications until 1998. He holds patents, and a PhD in signal processing.
